The SIG has many exciting opportunities to dive into Critical Thinking and the pedagogical implications it brings. Today’s post is all about what is coming up in the next few months and into 2015.
October: On Oct. 12th, your very own coordinator, David Gann, will be giving a presentation entitled “A Four-Step Process for Critical Thinking Instruction” at the Maebashi Institute of Technology (MIT). This even is hosted by the Gunma JALT chapter. Join David and learn about how he is integrating CT into the EFL field!
November: On Nov. 1st, David Gann will be giving the same presentation in the Nagasaki area at Dejima Koryo Kaikan which is hosted by the Nagasaki JALT chapter. November also plays host to the JALT International Conference in Tsukuba. Your CT SIG will be in attendance and we will have a forum with three presenters. Greg Goodmacher of Keiwa College, Anna Isozaki of Gunma Prefectural Women’s University, and Michio Mineshima of Niigata University of Health and Welfare will be presenting at our CT SIG forum. This will be our 3rd forum and we are excited to have these presenters share their knowledge with you. You will be able to find the CT SIG forum in room 304 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm on November 22nd. It will be in the Tsukuba International Congress Center (Epochal Tsukuba). If you will be attending JALT this year, make sure to stop by our booth in the SIG area. Meet some of the officers and talk shop.
Another important event at JALT International is our CT SIG Annual General Meeting. If you attend, you will be able to meet with officers, participate in any business that requires member input, and make your voice heard.
After JALT International, on November 30th, the CT SIG will have participating in the Tohoku ELT Expo in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. If you would like more information about this event, please contact our CT SIG Program Chair, Roehl Sybing at roehl.sybing@gmail.com. You can find more information about this event at www.jaltsendai.org.
Finally, your officer core is working hard to have a CT SIG journal made! This is exciting as we are hoping to offer our members, and non-members of course, an outlet to publish in a peer-reviewed journal. We will be “testing the waters” with a promotional issue this November at JALT International so stop by the booth to chat about it! We are also looking for submissions! This means you COULD BE ONE OF THE FIRST PUBLISHED IN OUR NEW JOURNAL. How cool would that be? If you would like more information please contact us though our contact page. You can contact the publications officer (make sure to copy ctscan.editor@gmail.com as well) about submissions. The publications officer email can be found in the “ABOUT” page on this website.
We are really working hard for you, our members. We are excited about the next few months and hope you are as well. If you have any questions, please drop us a line in the comments section or on our FaceBook page. We hope to be seeing you this fall!
